SCMP : Canto-pop diva Sandy Lam celebrates life and earth with her first album in six years

2012-08-30
Canto-pop diva Sandy Lam Yik-lin has been making headlines lately for her rumoured romance with vocalist-drummer Jun Kung, who is about 11 years younger than her.
But her new Mando-pop album, set for release next month after a six-year hiatus, is perhaps a bigger reason for her fans to get excited.
Lam spent the past two years working on the album, titled Gaia. Instead of turning to famous producers and musicians, she wanted to make the album more personal and worked on the lyrics and music herself.
As the title suggests - Gaia is the goddess of Earth in Greek mythology - her songs pay tribute to life and the earth.
During a recent concert at Taipei Arena, she played guitar on stage for the first time.
Lam, now in her 40s, joked that she had left it a bit late to start learning the guitar.
She will be in Taipei today, and will be performing in Hong Kong on September 21 (should be 18).
