Rachel Tou Wing SzeAfter touring in cities such as Melbourne, Toronto and Singapore, Sandy Lam Yik Lin finally came to Macau to perform at the Venetian’s CotaiArena last Saturday.
It was the second time for the 43-year old singer, dubbed the “Queen of Chinese pop music,” to perform in Macau. Her first concert took place at the Sands casino-hotel in Nape two years ago.
“I was surprised to find Macau that has become so prosperous and colourful,” Lam said during the concert, adding that the vast change had brought back a lot of memories about her childhood trips to Macau.
Lam told reporters in a backstage interview after the concert that different elements had been added to her concerts held in different cities during the tour, which started last year.
During her local concert, Lam sang several theme songs of movies that were popular in Hong Kong in the 90s, such as “The Tumbling Red Dust” and “Red Rose White Rose” – much to the audible delight of the audience.
Besides singing melodious slow songs such as “Have You at Least” and “Day and Night,” Lam also showed off her dancing skills along the rhythms of “Leaving Steel Forest.”Lam said in the interview that she was overwhelmed by the audience’s reactions. “I feel really warm and moved,” Lam said, adding she was delighted to find that many spectators had come from Hong Kong to watch her performance in Macau.
The organizer of the concert revealed earlier that almost 1,500 seats were added to meet demand.
Lam said that after the last stop of her tour in Kuala Lumpur in November, she would start thinking about “a brand new concept” for a concert in Hong Kong next year.
